2024 Feel the Teal for Ovarian Cancer Awareness

Finding a cure for cancer is something I am very passionate about. In 2002, I lost my mom to Lung Cancer and then my sister to Ovarian Cancer in 2011.

Because Ovarian Cancer is what is known as the silent killer, I decided to turn my pain into passion and bring awareness by raising money in my sister’s memory. September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Since September of 2011, I have shared facts surrounding Ovarian Cancer. The first Feel the Teal in your Hottest Heels Event took place in 2014. That is now the signature event to raise money and awareness to Ovarian Cancer every year. $10,000 has been raised since 2011. Funds have been donated over the years to the Ovarian Cancer Awareness Foundation of Bartlett, TN, DeSoto Hope of Southaven, MS, the Mary Kay Charitable Foundation, and the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance.

I will continue to raise money and bring awareness to Ovarian Cancer in my sister’s memory until a cure is discovered.

Adopt a Grandparent

Background

This program started in 2014 with adopting Nursing homes. From there a partnership was developed with Sacred Heart Southern Missions of Walls, MS in 2016. Sacred Heart Southern MIssions provide various programs to low income individuals and families in Tate, Tunica, DeSoto, Marshall and Benton counties of Mississippi.

With the growth of the Adopt a Grandparent service project, The Arc of NW MIssissippi became collaborators with the growing outreach. The Arc of NW Mississippi utilizes this program to help provide individuals with intellectual disabilities an opportunity to do a project with task. The students are the ones who put together the gifts that are sponsored for the elderly.
